I found this question to be a bit challenging and more in depth. I feel as people and a society it is always easier to do inventory of others vs. looking at the person staring back in the mirror. Most never take the time to take a good look at themselves. After pondering on this and doing some soul searching I was able to conclude the following. My answer’s will be very different from most as I lead a very differnt life. The information I’m about to disclose has been like going into war and back and is very personal. I’m not ashamed. I can’t answer Mr. Williams question honestly with out my voice, that of one, being heard. The 3 area’s that I can and will improve in both school and in life is as follows :
1.Not letting my disablity hold me back, sadly no one asks for there life to change in an instant but as is life it can, and does. I want to share my story with people and help the medical community, for a better understanding to treat patients. It is my dream to start a foundation to raise awareness about the incurable terrible neurological disorder. Let’s find a cure.
2. Working through my pain. I can sit around throughing pitty parties for myself. NO, I will fight my own battles and come out only to persevear.
3. Better time management. My life was very chaotic w/ all my Dr’s without college but I chose to place an education into my schedule. I now know God, If you will, doesn’t place more on our plates than we can handle. I lived for a reason.

The three top things that could improve my life and school is a trick question for me because I’m entering college late in life, with the stress of a new job, but will try to answer question anyway.
1. The first would be accepting things that are beyond my control and work within the moment to complete task.
2. Utilizing my fime better because for some strange reason I believe that all the work has to be done by me and nobody else. I have to allow people to assist me and trust that they are just as capable.
3. To be more flexible with my time and allow room for change. I’m so used to being in a structure environment that sometimes I prevent change for happening within my life.
Improving in these areas would definately aid me in my success as a student and employee.
Three areas that I can improve to make me more successful in life are, time management, fear of failing and being embarassed. I am a mother of a one year old and a two year old. I am 21 years old, have no help from family. I have always been told you’ll never amount to anything because of becoming a mother at such a young age. I am not the smartest one in the bunch and I have always been embarrassed to ask for help or say I dont understand, when I look around and I am the only one.

Being a single parent of a really smart 8 year old I understand your concern about not understanding things.
As parents we teach our children to do their best, ask questions if they do not understand and help if they do understand. Mostly, we let them know it is not about winning but about doing their best. As a mom of 2 I am sure you repeate this lesson often.
Be proud and do your best. Don’t be afraid, just take a good look in the mirror and stand tall knowing you are making a difference going back to college! What a wonderful gift to give yourslelf and your children. To you I say HOORAY! You Alisha are carving a new path and opening doors that may have gone unnoticed to both yourself and your children. Look in that mirror and know that Alisha is a role model to her children and yes folks Alisha has arrived!

Alisha,
After reading your post my heart sank. You’re so much stronger than that. You have 2 beautiful little miracles. If someone were to ask your children ” Who do they look up too? ” I bet they would not hesitate to say YOU. It takes alot to raise children w/ 2 adults, let alone being a single mother. YOU ARE STRONG. Most women I’ve met gave up, on school, their dreams. Here you are blogging on a school page. Be proud of yourself, your hard work will pay of and when you have your degree, what will they say then? I may just be an outsider looking in, but from what I see you do have a family. One that with the right guidance will be all that you and they need. People who are so quick to pass judgement, and say hurtful things do so because they are miserable internally. They are not happy with their own life and where they stand. You are blessed, I would give anything to be able to have a child grow inside me and form that bond. Remember, even in your darkest hour you are never truely alone.

Areas in which I could improve:
1. Self-esteem/confidence. I believe I’m in the negetives at this point. It would be nice to be able to believe in myself again…
2. Time management. I am, officially, the most accomplished procrastinator on the East coast. And would rather do almost ANYTHING than homework.
3. A firm direction/goals. I’ve only ever really wanted to be a writer, but I feel that I need a back-up plan in case that doesn’t work out. The problem? Nothing else really interests me. Well, to be more specific, nothing else that’s less impracticle interests me.

Three areas I need to improve on are procrastination, time management, and focusing on studying. All three of these tie in together so if I can improve one it would greatly help to get started on the others. I always put off on doing my homework till last min. which stresses me out, and this is because I don’t manage my time wisley and put other things first. Then my mind rambles off and I don’t focus on what I need to.

I need to stay thing that i am a smart, intellegent person and not get myself down and become my own enemy. The last I need to work on is the fact that when I do manage the time not to waste it but slaking off. Staying modivated is a key to success.

There is nothing wrong with be competitve, I personally find it to be a good trait. How do you think famous singers and actors, for example got to where they are? Most have that built into who they are. They all had to start somewhere and compete to be the best at what they do to land that 1 role, or nail that audition. I enjoyed reading your observation about yourself and your level of honesty pertaining to your views on ” being right / open minded “.

There will always be things that you may want or need to improve in school or in life. The three things that I want to improve in my life right now is my time mangement/ procastination, asking help when i think i may need it, and my self-confidence. With school, cheerleading, chores, and having a boyfriend my life is pretty hectic, so for me to improve my time mangement and try not to procastinate that much will make my life a little bit easier. I have a problem for not asking help. i always try to figure things out myself, which isn’t bad, but when i think i’m doing something right i’m actually doing something worng. If i improve in asking for help when i really think i need it will help me understand the material better. i would also like to improve my self- confidence. i do have a little faith in myself of what i can do, but sometimes i need that little push to get me to actually do it.

Motivation- I think if i would be motivated to do things, i would set aside time for them and have the self discipline to do them.
Procrastination- I usually procrastinate and set the things i need to get done aside because i would rather do something more fun/interesting at the moment.
Setting smaller goals- I think that setting goals that are achievable (and completed) give me a sense of accomplishment and would drive me to complete more goals.

I also agree with Alex who cares if you are the only one with the question its your education that you pay for you have ever right to be heard! Good luck!

Well three things that i can work on are.
1. time management, i need to thin out my schedule and make time for the things that are important.
2. scheduling, try not to over load my schedule and stick to my goals.
3.procrastination,with the little time that i do have i need to make sure i stay on task and not leave things for the last minute

Sharon,
Though we have never met, you seem like such a smart & beautiful person. I sincerly hope that you don’t have to struggle everyday w/ chronic pain or a severe medical condition. If in deed you do, my heart is with you, and are NOT alone. Thank you for such kind words, you truely touched me =)
One word gets me through it all ” FAITH “.

Alisha,
After reading your post my heart sank.

1. Stop being so lazy, I need to not choose to lay down and watch tv or choose to go out with my friends over studying and doing classwork.
2. I need to be more open to other peoples views and opinions and not shut them down immediately because I think they are wrong
3.Realize that its ok to try something and fail as long as you gave everything you had and are willing to try again until u succeed.

I have to agree with many people regarding this being a “hard question” to drive down to 3 things….
but for this purpose I will make an attempt:
1/ I should take constructive criticism more effectively
2/ have better time management
3/ have better health in which all around will make me rounded in studies and life

Well i believe that everyone has made some truly good points. Personally i believe that my 3 areas to improve upon would be:
1. Procrastination- stop waiting until the last moments to do everything, like i am now.
2. Organization- i am very disorganized and i believe this enhances my procrastinating.
3. Focus- I tend to have a hard time focusing on things that i do not find interesting, such as homework.

3 Area i could improve on that would help in school and life would be :
1. Time management – I really have a hard time balancing my work load when it comes to school family and friends i seem to leave everything till the last minute and i believe improving this would help me become an overall better person.
2. Self esteem and health i think if i had more of it i would be a lot happier of a person.
3. Concentration- i suffer from A.D.D and have been off medication for a few years so its hard for me to get things done efficiently i think if i had more concentration life itself would be a lot easier and id be happier.

2. Organization: If I was more organized, that would help me in a lot of areas, inlcuding time management
3. Putting more effort into my work would help me make better grades

2.) Organization is a key trait I would need to work on to improve my college success, cause it might help with all aspects by keeping everything in order and not stress
3.) Modivation always needs to be kept on track it’s easy to lose and hard to keep. if you lose modivation you won’t do good and keeping mine needs work on for some of the classes i am taking tend to easily side track me.

Three area’s that I need to improve on to get better grades in school would be time managment, modivation & procrastination, and then the last would be staying positive with my attitude with myself and how good of a student I am. time management is hard from me having two small kids 4 and 19 months so giving them the time they need is important but also getting my homework done and studing is important too. I need to stay thing that i am a smart, intellegent person and not get myself down and become my own enemy. The last I need to work on is the fact that when I do manage the time not to waste it but slaking off. Staying modivated is a key to success.

Mitchell,
There is nothing wrong with be competitve, I personally find it to be a good trait.

Three areas that I can improve to make me more successful are:
1) MOTIVATION- I definately slack on this.
2)ORGANIZATION-For example, my paperwork. I get binders and folders for school, even dividers. Well sometimes when I rush, I tend to stuff things where they don’t belong, and they end up lost! 😦
3)TIME- As much as I would love to have everything on schedule, it’s more difficult when you have a baby. I try to do school work during her naps, but sometimes, she’s not tired and wont sleep till late.

I think the top 3 areas would be:
Motivation- I think if i would be motivated to do things, i would set aside time for them and have the self discipline to do them.
Procrastination- I usually procrastinate and set the things i need to get done aside because i would rather do something more fun/interesting at the moment.
Setting smaller goals- I think that setting goals that are achievable (and completed) give me a sense of accomplishment and would drive me to complete more goals.
